ABDOMINOPLASTY (Tummy Tuck)
You Are a Candidate if:
| • |
You have excess abdominal skin from weight loss, pregnancy or other causes, with or without muscle laxity. |
| • |
You wish to change the contours of your body. |
Intended Result
| • |
An improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas. |
| • |
A smoother, flatter abdomen. |
| • |
A more flattering figure or physique, in or out of clothing. |
Procedure
| • |
The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia in a surgery center. |
| • |
Abdominal muscles are tightened during an abdominoplasty. |
| • |
The incisions and scars are usually within the bikini line. Other options will depend on your anatomy. |
| • |
A surgical drain may be placed during an abdominoplasty. If used, it is usually removed in 24 to 48 hours. |
| • |
Your belly button (navel) may be repositioned, if necessary. |
| • |
Liposuction may be used in conjunction with an abdominoplasty. |
Recuperation and Healing
| • |
The patient is sent home in a surgical compression garment or girdle. This compression garment is to be worn for the first month, as it helps reduce swelling and helps you achieve the final result more quickly. |
| • |
Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medications. |
| • |
Bruising and swelling generally subside within two to four weeks. The final result takes shape over three to six months. |
Other Options
| • |
Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Liposuction, Breast Reduction, Breast Lift (Mastopexy) and/or Breast Enlargement (Augmentation). |
