BREAST LIFT (Mastopexy)
You Are a Candidate if:
| • |
You have sagging breasts. |
| • |
You have enlarged nipple-areolar complexes (pigmented areas around the nipples). |
Intended Result
| • |
An elevated, more youthful breast contour. |
| • |
Nipple-areolar complexes of the desired size and at the correct height. |
Procedure
| • |
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia or using I.V. Sedation (twilight sleep) in our AAAASF certified surgical facility. |
| • |
The design of the incisions will vary with the degree of sag, but include incisions around the nipple-areolar complex and straight down to the breast fold, as well as under the breast. |
| • |
The nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped in a pleasing contour and in a more normal position, creating a new “skin bra” for the breast tissue. |
| • |
The procedure is often combined with a breast augmentation. |
Recuperation and Healing
| • |
The patient is sent home in a surgical bra dressing. This helps to mold the breasts in the proper position. |
| • |
Elbows are kept at the sides for one week. |
| • |
Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. |
| • |
Light activities can be resumed after one week, generally, with a return to full activities at six weeks. |
Other Options
| • |
As noted in information regarding Breast Augmentation, a Mastopexy is often performed at the same time as a Breast Augmentation. |
Surgeon’s Note
