ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Dr. John Strausser and his in-office surgical facility, Aesthetic and Cosmetic Surgery of Sarasota, continue to be innovators in plastic surgery, striving to achieve "natural" improvements in facial and body rejuvenation. Dr. Strausser is Board Certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is the Past Chief of Plastic Surgery and Chief of Staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He is currently the president of the Sarasota Plastic Surgery Education Foundation and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The more than 600 doctors on staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital elected him Physician of the Year for 2006-2007.
He holds privileges in Plastic Surgery at both Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, as well as at multiple area surgery centers. He presently also serves on the Executive Committee of Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the Quality Assurance and Standards Committees for the AAAASF, (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities), www.aaaasf.org, the premier certifying agency of in-office surgical facilities.
Dr. Strausser received his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Chicago/ Pritzker School of Medicine. He subsequently completed a surgical internship at Harvard. He completed his general surgery residency both at Harvard and at the University of Texas. His Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery training was performed at the University of Florida.
Dr. Strausser has also served a three-year fellowship appointment in Surgical Oncology (cancer surgery) at the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C., as well as two years in the Public Health Service.
Dr. Strausser has published numerous articles in the medical literature on subjects ranging from cancer treatments and immunology, to breast enhancement and liposuction. He has been in private practice since 1983. His practice in Plastic Surgery is broad-based, reflecting his interest in all aspects of this field. This includes cosmetic and aesthetic surgery, in addition to reconstructive and cancer operations. He presently holds the coveted “Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery” issued by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, www.surgery.org. He is also a certified inspector of surgery facilities for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), and is an approved investigator of breast implants for the FDA.
Dr. Strausser is a member of many specialty societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons and the International Society of Clinical Plastic Surgeons.
